Each year, the Burning Man event has a call for sticker designs. The event theme this year is “Curiouser and Curiouser,” a quote from Lewis Carroll’s fantastical “Alice in Wonderland” book.
I sent in 24 different designs: 7 basic designs with variations. I’m shooting for first place, for my design to be the 3-inch round “gate sticker,” given out to all 70,000 attendees as they enter. Last year, three of my designs were chosen to print, but not as the gate sticker.
Below are my favorites. All draw on themes from the “Alice in Wonderland” book.
The illustration is of the grinning Cheshire Cat—who, as you may remember, disappears body first, grin last.

The central graphic combines the White Rabbit, the Tea Party and a keyhole, all of which Alice encounters in her travels.

A second rendition of the Cheshire Cat: heavy and sly. I used weighty type to match.

This charming “8-bit” illustration of Alice, clearly recognizable despite the crude style, is surrounded by curlicue type in colors from her dress.

A third rendition of the Cheshire Cat with elaborate, scrolling lines reminiscent of henna patterns or a trippy coloring book, and a gradient behind it of yellow at the mouth to orange at the edges. The green background with its psychedelic stripes centers the illustration.

One more illustration of the grinning Cheshire Cat, in the green branches of a tree. The body disappears first, grin last.

The Cheshire Kitten, just for fun!
