Terrace Club, one of the undergraduate “eating clubs” at Princeton University, was my main place of refuge, entertainment, and recharging while I was there.
(Eating clubs are like frats or sororities, but while you eat and socialize at the club, only the officers live there.)
Terrace had the most delectable food, the most avant-garde parties with the most cutting-edge music, and usually the most undergraduate Thesis Prizes in a given year. People from other clubs would come slumming at Terrace for parties, but always slink back home to their stuffier clubs at the end of the night. Needless to say, Terrace inspired fanatical loyalty among members and alums—still does!
The Terrace Board of Directors needed a new template for alum communiqués, to launch a new fundraising campaign. I was able to mine the Terrace archives for old member photos, and chose a formal portrait of suit-clad young men from 1956, contrasting with a relaxed outdoor photo of a diverse group from 2017. I used the longtime (unofficial) Terrace motto, “Food = Love,” as the newsletter footer. Colors are Princeton orange and black, of course. Go Tigers!
