The Client
Pat Murphy is an award-winning author of science fiction and fantasy. She’s also a scientist and, as she calls it, a toymaker. Currently, she creates science activities for kids at Mystery Science, an elementary school science curriculum designed to inspire students and teachers to love science. For more than 20 years before that, she was senior writer at the Exploratorium, San Francisco’s museum of science, art, and human perception.
The Challenge
Pat needed a website that reflected all these aspects of herself, and that acted as an information center for her substantial body of work. She also needed links to booksellers for each item. And she wanted to be able to add new content herself.
The Solution
We chose the Squarespace platform for ease of use, and decided on a clean, cheerful, 2-column design using a pale yellow background, large black header type and red subhead type.
The “Short Stories” page has book or ebook covers with short blurbs and links to booksellers.
The “Novels” page has the same, with suggestions for which works might appeal to which readers.
The “Science” page provides detail about Pat’s science writing and toymaking over the years.
