#COVIDWriMo was a writers’ group in the first year of the COVID pandemic.

The name is a play on NaNoWriMo, the National Novel Writing Month event which takes place every November. Writers, novice and seasoned, pledge to write 50,000 words of a new novel during the month.

NaNoWriMo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides tools, structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds — on and off the page.

#COVIDWriMo, too, provided structure and encouragement to writers. Whether the writing was in the form of novels, plays, essays, short stories or other work, the group was for anyone who wanted to boost their focus and productivity during the lockdowns and thereafter. The goal was for participants to share updates of their work with the hashtag and logo.

I created a stylized illustration of the coronavirus, and superimposed the strong black bar and bold white type to keep it at bay. The virus was further “contained” by placing it and the type inside a black rectangle.
