Feline Font Friday 3 – it’s #eightsthecat’s 7th birthday, also it’s Tuesday

Today, February 28, 2023, is my lovely and delightful cat Eights’s seventh birthday. Lucky seven! Next year will be extra fun as it’ll be Eights’ eighth, so I’ll give her eight of everything, or maybe everything divided into eighths, or both.

Here is gray and white Eights (on the left) when she was a wee thing.

May 16, 2016. Eights has a littermate brother, Aces, the black one on the right (Aces and Eights, geddit?) who now lives with my ex-husband. We adopted Aces and Eights in May 2016 as a bonded pair. Here they are when we first got them at 8 weeks from the SPCA. We had to return them THE SAME DAY because they were both really sick, and we didn’t get them back until they were better, which was FOUR MORE WEEKS. Reprehensibly, the shelter DOES NOT PROVIDE LOANER KITTENS while yours are in the shop. I am still bitter about this.

Aces and Eights stretched out on the bed, later in 2016. As I said, they were billed as a bonded pair, but Aces was always way more rambunctious and playful than Eights. This degenerated to Aces being really aggressive towards her, including chasing and biting her. We had to keep them separate a lot.
Also later in 2016: Eights with Squeaky Mouse, a frequent chew toy.
Aces asleep, eights yawning, also from 2016. The “hammock” top of this little cat tree fit both of them when they were little; now Eights fills the whole thing!

December 2019: Eights singing the song of her people. Or yawning, not sure.
February 2020: Eights has a little gray spot on the back of her right foot, which will allow me to pick her out of a lineup if she goes on a bender and starts robbing banks again.
August 2020: Eights and I after my ex-husband and I split. As I said, Aces lives with him now, which is a good thing as he (Aces) was chasing and biting Eights a lot.
